Trips when the arithmetic mean of values in a window exceeds a threshold.

How it works

Measures the arithmetic mean to reflect the general performance level of a service. It smooths individual outliers to identify sustained shifts in performance over time.

When to use

  • Monitoring general response time trends.
  • Tracking resource utilization where occasional spikes are expected.
  • Detecting gradual performance regressions.

When not to use

  • Latency monitoring where tail performance (the slowest 5%) is critical; use p95.
  • Cases where a single extreme outlier represents a critical failure.
